Bayou Suzette

Lois Lenski wrote Bayou Suzette in 1943. It is set in Louisiana. It tells the story of a white girl, Suzette and Merteel, an Indian orphan. Their friendship grows throughout the book. Together, they are able survive a flood. The bayou country comes alive with Lenski’s colorful depictions.
